FRCN DG Calls On Nigerians To Celebrate Country’s Achievements

The Director General, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Dr. Mansur Liman, has called on Nigerians to be patriotic and appreciate measures put in place by government towards resolving the current challenges confronting the nation.

He made the call at the opening of the 3rd National Theatre Festival of Unity in Lagos.

The festival with the theme, “Celebrations” is an opportunity to take stock of God’s abundant blessings upon the country and to celebrate the remarkable achievements of the present administration, despite the daunting challenges.

Different dance troupes made up of children, youths, women and men, went indepth in the art, by using their performances to tell the Nigerian story, depicting the nation’s unique values, including its rich cultures, talented and hardworking citizens, respect for elders and communal living, while underscoring the need to preserve them for national unity.

In his remark, Dr. Mansur Liman applauded the great creativity exhibited by the performers, noting that it was part of the success stories in the country that should be celebrated.

Dr Liman, who was represented by the Director Lagos Operations of FRCN, Mrs. Bolanle Owoyemi, said there were so many success stories in Nigeria to be celebrated, including the resucitation of the rail system by the present administration.

“So many things happened in the year. It is because we have life that we are celebrating.

“For the administration of the present Government, there is something that I really appreciate and I know many Nigerians will appreciate it. It is the resucitation of the rail system. If you have not enjoyed it, please take a ride in the train. You will have something and good testament to talk about the administration of President Buhari.

“So as you celebrate the 3rd anniversary of National Theatre Festival of Unity, let us unite to celebrate Nigeria.

“Let us churn out contents that celebrate the various achievements of Nigeria. Let us in retrospect celebrate the achievements and achievers in the last four years of the current administration.

“Let’s celebrate that inspite of the contrary predictions concerning Nigeria we overcame . Lets us celebrate Nigeria. We have great people like Dr. Okonjo Iweala, the first woman and first African to be DG of World Trade Organisation. People like Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye who performed a ground breaking surgery on an unborn baby. Let’s celebrate people like Burna Boy, Tobi Amusam and a host of other Nigerians and be assured that Nigeria will definitely be better again”, Liman said.

The FRCN DG urged Nigerians to unite in celebrating the current achievements of the country and keep hope alive for a better future.

The Chairman of the ocassion and former President of the Nigerian Academy of Letters, Professor Olu Obafemi called on Nigerians to collaborate in preserving and promoting the nation’s cultural values as they were critical for the attainment of national unity.

“This is the 3rd edition of National Theatre Festival of Unity. There is no time in our national life better than now to talk about national unity.

” It is in assemblage of all the core values of our society, embedded in culture. You can’t have national culture without national unity,” he said.

The General Manager , National Theatre, Iganmu, Professor Sunday Enessi Ododo said the yearly festival of unity would now be an avenue to showcase and celebrate talents discovered in the course of the year.

Professor Ododo commended the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Bankers Committee for their supports in projecting the National Theatre to the world.

“November 14-16 gave the world a glimpse; a peek view of the New National Theatre. We invited and had in attendance, the presidency as well as the United Nations Secretary-General in charge of the World Tourism Organisation. What the world witnessed was breath-taking as the resplendent and glamorous ambience of the National Theatre welcomed Nigerians to a world transformed by the unwavering commitments of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the CBN/Bankers’ Committee and the Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; the tenacity of purpose shown by this management and the understanding of our staff.

“The ensuing days since that world event shows how bright a future the National Theatre has and how long the people have waited for a National Theatre to be proud of.

“I have been inundated with calls and booking requests from clients home and abroad who want to use the National Theatre. Indeed, we have cause to celebrate a dream that came to reality under our watch, a vision that crystalized through our dedication and a national pride that has returned to its pantheon through our can-do spirit.

“Using a world tourism event to take a tour of the facility was a masterstroke that calls for celebration.
The world saw what was possible, attainable and achievable through transformational leadership of President Mohammadu Buhari”, Professor Ododo said.

Activities lined up for the three days festival are exciting live theatre performances, music, comedy, dance , film show , street carnival and awards.
