The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Lagos Operations, has honoured one of its broadcasting greats, Alhaji Shua’ib Rotimi Onabanjo, as he bowed out of the civil service after a distinguished career as Head of News, Radio One.
The colourful retirement ceremony, held at the Radio Nigeria Broadcasting Academy, Ikeja, drew directors, senior staff, clerics, and colleagues who paid glowing tributes to the veteran journalist.
Director of the Corporate Development Centre, Mr. Osana Osamen, commended Alhaji Onabanjo for his remarkable contributions, urging him to embrace post-retirement opportunities with optimism.

In his goodwill message, the Director of the National Broadcast Academy, Dr. Sam Anyanwu, described him as a man of discipline and integrity whose legacy will remain impactful in the Corporation.

Similarly, the General Manager of Radio One, Mr. Abiola Peters, hailed the retiree as a “thoroughbred professional” whose dedication and leadership left indelible marks in the newsroom.
The Chief Imam of FRCN Lagos, Alhaji Abdulgafar Abdulfatai, and Pastor Abiodun Elugbaju, both offered prayers for God’s blessings and guidance as Alhaji Onabanjo begins a new chapter.
In his response, the celebrant expressed deep appreciation to colleagues and management for the honour, advising younger editors to always seek second opinions in their work, stressing that “editing is a continuous process with no finality.”
The ceremony was marked by fond recollections of his mentorship, professionalism, and decades of unwavering commitment to broadcasting excellence.
