In a bid to enhance inter-agency synergy and operational efficiency, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command, have renewed their commitment to collaboration during a strategic roundtable held in Lagos.
The engagement, which took place at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Onikan, followed a courtesy visit by the Zonal Commanding Officer of FRSC for Lagos and Ogun States, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Ann Oluwakemi Oladayo-Odeleye, to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Adegoke Fayoade.
ACM Oladayo-Odeleye, the first female Zonal Commanding Officer of RS2, outlined key areas for collaboration to ensure safer roads and improved security. Her proposals focused on joint operations, training, enforcement strategies, and public education initiatives.
“We must prioritise visibility, discipline, and strategic deployments on high-risk corridors,” she said. “Our joint efforts should aim not only at crash reduction but also at intelligence sharing and effective enforcement that builds public trust.”
Strategic Focus Areas
During the roundtable, both officers highlighted shared goals and operational challenges in Lagos and Ogun States—two of the busiest and most complex zones in the country.
Key proposals from the FRSC include
Road Safety Initiatives: Strategic deployments to reduce road traffic crashes, particularly in high-risk zones.
Collaboration and Enforcement: Joint operations with real-time intelligence sharing to enhance compliance and effectiveness.
Security Operations: Coordinated efforts to tackle urban crime and threats at traffic corridors, checkpoints, and high-crash zones.
Capacity Building: Joint training sessions and personnel exchange programmes to foster mutual understanding and professionalism.
Public Awareness Campaigns: Unified community outreach, school sensitisation programmes, and road safety education.
Relationship Building: Promoting harmony, eliminating inter-agency conflicts, and encouraging better interpersonal communication among personnel.
Police Reaffirm Commitment to Partnership
In his response, AIG Adegoke Fayoade expressed appreciation for the visit and commended the proactive leadership of the FRSC. He described the collaboration as critical to addressing the growing demands of road safety and security in the region.
“The complexities of Lagos and Ogun States demand nothing less than unity of purpose,” the AIG stated. “We must resolve field-level issues swiftly and ensure lower cadre officers are reoriented to act professionally.”
The AIG further emphasized:
Improved Synergy: Seamless service delivery through sustained partnership.
Conflict Resolution: Immediate resolution of operational frictions between field officers.
Professionalism at the Grassroots: Continuous training for rank-and-file officers.
Resource Sharing: Pooling of logistics and manpower for maximum impact.
Joint Workshops and Seminars: Cross-agency learning to build a more resilient security and traffic management framework.
The meeting concluded with both agencies pledging sustained communication and collaborative action to improve public safety and road use behaviour in Lagos and Ogun States.
AIG Fayoade also congratulated ACM Oladayo-Odeleye on her historic appointment, expressing confidence in her leadership and vision for the zone.
