FRSC Mourns Victims of Kano Crash, Urges Action Against Road Carnage

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has extended heartfelt condolences to the Kano State Government and families of victims who lost their lives in a tragic road crash on May 31, 2025, along the Kaduna-Kano expressway.

The fatal lone crash occurred at Gadar Yankifi around 12:30 PM and involved a Kano State Government-owned Coaster bus (registration KN 041 A17) carrying 24 passengers—23 men and one woman. Twenty-one male adults were confirmed dead, while five others sustained injuries.

Preliminary investigations suggest that fatigue and excessive speed from a long overnight journey may have contributed to the crash. The Corps Marshal emphasized the dangers of night driving, fatigue, and speeding, urging fleet operators to take stricter safety measures.

He called for collective responsibility in tackling road carnage, appealing to all road users to adhere to traffic laws, prioritize vehicle maintenance, and ensure drivers are well-rested before trips.

Mohammed also commiserated with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing the tragedy as a shared loss and a painful reminder of the urgent need for improved road safety culture.

The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing road safety standards and preventing future tragedies through continued awareness, regulation, and enforcement efforts nationwide.
