Garlands for Third Republic Lagos Speaker, Abayomi Kinyomi At Fidau

Fidau prayers have been offered for former Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly in the third republic, Engineer Abayomi Kinyomi, who died recently at age 82.

The prayers led by Clerics from the Ansar U Deen Society at the residence of the late Speaker in Amuwo Odofin, attracted the incumbent Speaker represented by his Deputy, Prince Wasiu Eshinlokun, colleagues of the deceased, family and friends.

In his sermon, Imam Abdulrafiu Yusuf, described Engineer Kinyomi as a devoted Muslim who was supportive to every cause of the faith and humanity.

He urged the children of the late Speaker to be united to uphold his legacy and to sustain the commitment of their father to the Ansar U Deen Society especially the Festac branch.

In an interview with newsmen, representative of the incumbent Speaker, Prince Eshinlokun eulogised the late Speaker, Engineer Kinyomi as a unifier and humble leader, while in office and thereafter.

He pointed out that the deceased Speaker has earned himself a place of immortalization among the list of Speakers as their busts will soon be unveiled in a dedicated garden in the Assembly premises at Alausa – Ikeja.

A former Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Comrade Ayo Adewale said the late Engineer Kinyomi was a father – figure and humble to a fault, who throughout his lifetime stood for peace and progress in the council area.

Speaking on behalf of the former lawmakers, Mr. Adebowale Olasoji, who then represented Ikeja Constituency One, described Mr. Kinyomi as a honest and exceptional leader who carried everyone along in the scheme of things when he was alive.

Speaking on behalf of the family,a daughter of the deceased, Ms  Ibironke Kiyonmi thanked everyone for the support and honour for a befitting burial, that is a testament of the good life her father lived.

Former members of the Lagos Assembly and who also constituted the Lagos Legislative Forum present during the Fidau Prayer included the Deputy Speaker of the Third Republic, Mr Rasheed Fasina, Mr. Rahman Kayode Adeleye who represented Mushin Constituency 2, Mr. Sakiru Salami of Surulere Constituency 2

Others were Mr Remi Sofolahan of Mainland Constituency 2, , Mr Gbenga Oshin of Ikorodu Constituency 2 , Mr Rotimi Adeshina, Mr. Níyì Fabikun of Oshodi- Isolo Constituency 2, Mr Micheal Ebalulu of Ikeja Constituency 2 and Mrs Ramotallai Akinlola – Hassan of Amuwo Odofin Constituency 2.

Mr Abayomi Kinyomi served as Speaker of the Lagos State Assembly between January 1992 and November 1993.
