The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged Nigerians to keep hope alive
At a ceremony marking the nation’s 61st Independence anniversary at Agege Stadium, Governor Sanwo-Olu who said Lagos provides a perfect example of the reflection and aspirations of the nation’s founding fathers, encouraged Nigerians and the people of Lagos State to close ranks for the unity and development of the country despite the challenges facing the nation.
“My message to every Nigerian at this time is that we have no reason to lose hope. There is enough evidence around us of the fact that while we are not yet where we would like to be as a country and a people, we are also no longer where we used to be.More than ever before, it is time for all of us to close ranks, and view our differences not as a stumbling block but instead as an energizing force, and unite with renewed determination and commitment to move this country forward against all odds. The challenges we have been confronted with at any time within the last sixty-one years have been and are no doubt daunting, but certainly not insurmountable. A new mindset is required to overcome them; a conviction that it is possible, and that our strength truly lies in our diversity” he said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu who specially acknowledged the youths, advised them to see today’s commemoration of the nation’s independence as an opportunity to reflect on their dreams and their desire to improve their lives and change the world, pledged that his administration would continue to enable their success.
The Governor assured residents that modern tools would continued to be
employed for the security of life and property.
Governor Sanwo-Olu who confirmed that the State had overcome the third wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic, urged all residents to continue to keep to all the non-pharmaceutical protocols, such as physical distancing, hand washing and use of hand sanitizers to completely nip the disease in the bud.
I am glad to inform you that whilst we are not completely out of it, Lagos State Government has been able to stem the tide, we have overcome the third wave of the Covid-19 and we are on our way to abolishing it completely from our territory and from our State” the Governor announced.
