Gynaecologist Faces Involuntary Manslaughter Charges in Lagos

A Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, has fixed the trial of a medical doctor, Dr. Oyeyinka Oyetunde to December 19 following his arraignment before Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe.

The defendant was arraigned for alleged involuntary manslaughter of a patient.

According to the prosecution, the offence was committed on 16th June, 2020 at 1 Ajibade Oke Street, in Isolo area of Lagos State.

The State Prosecution stated that the doctor failed to administer care on a certain Uchenna who is now deceased.

He pleaded not guilty to a one count charge of involuntary manslaughter.

According to the Prosecutor, the offence is contrary to Section 229 of the Criminal Law, Laws of Lagos State 2015.

Meanwhile, defence counsel, Mr. Abayomi Omotunbora in his application for bail urged the court to allow his client to continue on his administrative bail granted him by an Ebute Metta Magistrate Court, Chief Magistrate G.O. Abayomi.

The judge, granted the request, noting that the defendant is not a flight risk going by his antecedents.

The court allowed him to continue on his bail, with a condition to provide the evidence for which he was granted bail, not later than seven days from today.

The judge thereafter, adjourned trial till December 19, 2022.
