The Aviation Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has called on its members to champion the adoption of cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain to eliminate revenue leakages and enhance public service delivery.
This is in a significant push to fortify the financial backbone of Nigeria’s aviation industry.
The call was made during a highly engaging virtual technical session on Tuesday, hosted by the chapter’s Pioneer Chairman, Mr. Ayodele Olatiregun.
The event centred on a presentation titled Leveraging Technology to Boost Aviation Revenue for Improved Public Service Delivery, delivered by Mr. Nnamdi Chime, CEO of Avitech Software Solutions, and his colleague, Mrs. Titilayo Ogunbanwo.
The session was strategically designed to align with the fifth pillar of the Honorable Minister of Aviation’s Five-Point Agenda, which focuses on optimizing revenue generation for the Federal Government.
Mr. Chime’s presentation illuminated how emerging technologies can revolutionize financial management in the sector.
He demonstrated how AI, blockchain, and advanced data analytics can be deployed to automate revenue aggregation, enhance transparency, and significantly improve collection efficiency.
The discourse thoroughly examined the persistent challenges and leakage points in the current revenue collection systems within aviation agencies.
It stressed the strategic role of Chartered Accountants, as financial custodians, in leading the transition towards tech-driven assurance solutions.
The experts also shared insights on global best practices in aviation revenue management that could be successfully adapted to the Nigerian context.
The impressive turnout for the virtual event highlighted the members’ strong interest in innovative ideas aimed at strengthening the financial resilience of the aviation industry.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Olatiregun urged attendees to translate the session’s insights into actionable strategies within their respective organizations.
“We must take the insights shared today very seriously and begin to embrace these emerging technologies”.
“Applying these tools is crucial for achieving improved outcomes at our individual duty posts and for the benefit of the wider aviation sector.”
He reaffirmed that under his leadership, the ICAN Aviation Chapter remains committed to fostering technical advancement by providing regular professional development opportunities for its members to support the sustainable growth of the sector.
