In commemoration of this year’s International Civil Defence Day, the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Lagos State Command, Mr Adedotun Keshinro has reiterated his commitment to safeguarding residents .
The Lagos State Commandant stated that the command had deployed additional officers and personnel across Lagos to enhance security and safety of the communities.
According to him, International Civil Defence Day is a globally recognised annual event observed by the International Civil Defence Organisation, ICDO.
He said that the day was to raise awareness of civil defence strategies towards the provision of safety of lives and property in the society.
This was in line with the directive of the Commandant General, NSCDC, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to commemorate the Day with speeches that reflect this year’s celebration’s theme; “Towards a Safer Society.”
The Lagos State Command ensured that activities put up to commemorate the event essentially and keenly focus on guaranteeing safety of lives and property in the society.
In his address to personnel, the Lagos State Commandant reflected on the urgent need to inform the command’s officers and men and journalists that the Day highlighted the importance of Civil Defence measures in drawing safety designs, statistical analysis and globally accepted industry methods with the view to protecting lives and property of the people.
The Command sensitized personnel on averting accidents, protecting property, and mitigating the effects of disasters, when they eventually occur among others measures.
The Guest Lecturer, Professor Adedeji Oyenuga, while delivering his remak commended the NSCDC’s proactive approach to community engagement, disaster preparedness, and environmental protection.
“Their achievements in foiling kidnappings, combating illegal mining and refineries, and protecting critical assets demonstrate a robust security strategy. The emphasis on humanitarian service and environmental responsibility aligns with global best practices, positioning the NSCDC as a model for civil defence organisations”
The event drew participants from various walks of life, who made it clear ICDO day continue to raise awareness, impact personne of the NSCDC and the general public on the relevance of the Corps’ duties to the society.
