Ijagemo Leaders Warn Against Open Cow Rearing, Seek Government Action

Residents of Ijagemo in Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, have raised concerns over the increasing practice of open cow rearing within the community, citing risks to public health, safety, and infrastructure.

The Baale of Ijagemo, High Chief Olateju Jimoh-Balogun, said the presence of cattle in residential areas has resulted in environmental pollution from uncontrolled animal waste and damage to the newly constructed major road serving the community.

He appealed to the Lagos State Government and relevant regulatory agencies to urgently intervene and stop the practice before it escalates, stressing that the wellbeing of residents and the protection of public infrastructure must remain a priority.

Also speaking, a community leader, Prince Bada-Gbajumo, cautioned those involved in open cow rearing to desist, warning that the activity poses serious dangers to residents.

He alleged that some individuals were responsible for rearing cattle within the community and noted that the practice has contributed to several accidents along the Ijegun–Ijagemo road, putting lives and property at risk.

Residents have called on government authorities to enforce environmental and public safety regulations, emphasising the need for urgent action to protect public health, prevent further damage to roads, and restore order within the community.
