The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, marking the commencement of the second phase of the process.
The resumption took effect yesterday, according to the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola.
The commission explained that the first phase of CVR ended on December 10, 2025, after online pre-registration began on August 18 and physical registration started on August 25, 2025.
During the first phase, 9,891,801 Nigerians initiated online pre-registration, while 2,572,054 registrations were fully completed nationwide as of November 28, 2025.
INEC said the break between the two phases was used to carry out statutory activities, including the display of the voters’ register for claims and objections from December 15 to 21, 2025, in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022.
Eligible Nigerians were urged to register, transfer voting locations, or update their details, while those already registered were advised to verify their information.
However, the commission noted that CVR remains suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral activities, adding that new dates for resumption in both locations would be announced later.
Meanwhile, members of the Labour Party (LP) in the FCT staged a protest at INEC’s national headquarters, demanding the inclusion of their candidates in the February 21 Area Council elections.
The protesters, citing a subsisting court order, accused INEC of deliberate exclusion, while National Commissioner Abdullahi Abdul Zuru assured them the commission would review the matter and act in accordance with the law.
