INEC to Release Supplementary Election Guidelines, Tasks RECs on Voter Access

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will soon unveil a supplementary document on Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections to enhance clarity on procedures for reviewing election declarations and returns.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made this known in Abuja on Tuesday during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs).

He emphasized that staff training on new policies and innovations does not require elaborate workshops but should be effectively handled at the state level to improve service delivery.

Yakubu urged RECs to submit detailed reports on plans to improve voter access to polling units, clean up the voter register, engage stakeholders at state and local levels, and manage election logistics and security effectively.

He reminded the commissioners of the scheduled electoral activities for the next year, including bye-elections in 12 states, the Anambra and Ekiti governorship elections, Osun governorship poll, and FCT Area Council elections.

Professor Yakubu concluded by calling on RECs to uphold their oath of office and ensure fairness and justice to all Nigerians, regardless of status.
