IPAN Urges Policymakers to Prioritize Analysts in Public Health Development

The Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN) has called on policymakers, private sector players, and the media to prioritize laboratory standards as a national concern to safeguard public health and economic growth.

The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of IPAN, Alhaji Abdullah Angara, reiterated the call at a pre-summit and 32nd Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) news conference held in Lagos.

He said the events would strengthen the role of analytical laboratories and professional analysts in national development.

Angara announced that the National Summit on Strengthening the Analytical Laboratory Regulatory Framework would hold from November 10–11, while the 32nd MCPD Workshop would follow from November 12–13, 2025.

Both events, endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, aim to unify laboratory regulation and enhance professional standards.

He explained that Nigeria’s analytical laboratories currently operate under fragmented and overlapping regulations, leading to inconsistent data and weak compliance.

The summit will bring together stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and development agencies to propose a coordinated framework for credible, evidence-based laboratory practices.

Key outcomes are expected to include a National Analytical Laboratory Policy, a National Analytical Laboratory Council, and a stronger registration and accreditation system.

The MCPD Workshop, themed “Testing for Cosmetic Safety and Efficacy: Balancing Consumer Demands, Public Health, and Regulatory Standards,” will focus on strengthening analysts’ capacity to ensure consumer safety in the fast-growing cosmetics industry.

Angara expressed appreciation to partners such as SON, RTSL, SYNAPED Technologies, NAFDAC, and NESREA, reaffirming IPAN’s commitment to quality and integrity.

“Credible laboratories build a credible nation. When test results are trustworthy, policies are sound, industries thrive, and citizens are safe,” he concluded.
