IWD: Sanwo-Olu Promises More Women-friendly Programmes

The role of women in nation building cannot be overemphasized, hence the need to prioritize their welfare at the grassroots as part of dividends of democracy.

Speaking on the International Women’s Day theme: Accelerate Action at the Onikan stadium on Lagos Island, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reiterated his administration’s commitment to foster inclusiveness in ensuring gender equality for the progress and development of the state in line with the THEME Plus agenda.

The Guest Speaker, a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, Professor Olurotimi Coker, emphasized that the multi dimensional roles of women contribute largely to their mental health, hence the need for women to pour out their minds while aggrieved to avoid depression, using the five stress management techniques which included dancing, laughing, writing their grievances in letter and keeping it to themselves, among others.

In an address of welcome, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Bolaji Dada, who commended the Sanwo-Olu’s administration for numerous policies and initiatives that creates an inclusive society where women are empowered to be financially Independent, hinted that the State Executive Council has approved the domestication of Economic Empowerment Policy in Higher Institutions in the State.

The highpoint of the Women’s Day celebration was March past by women dressed in a touch of purple clothing from the twenty local government areas and thirty-seven LCDAs after which Governor Sanwo-Olu gave out thousands of climate and eco friendly stoves to women on ground.
