The Chairman of the Joint Consultative and Negotiating Council (JCNC), Comrade Hector Nnadi, has called for urgent government intervention to resolve the long-standing entitlements owed to workers of the defunct Nigeria Airways.
Speaking at the 11th Edition of the Aviation Workers Week and Award Nite in Abuja, Nnadi acknowledged the dedication of aviation workers who work tirelessly to ensure the safety, security, and efficiency of the industry.
In his address, he highlighted the plight of former Nigeria Airways employees, who, despite their patriotic service, are still struggling to receive their full entitlements nearly 30 years after the airline’s liquidation.
He urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action to finally settle this matter, stating that such a move would earn him the title of “Aviation Workers’ Hero.”
Comrade Nnadi also recognized the efforts of the Minister of Aviation in addressing the issue but stressed the need for a final resolution.
The event’s theme, “The Role of Aviation Trade Unions in Galvanizing Workers’ Support for Attainment of Ministerial Mandates,” underscored the vital role trade unions play in shaping the industry.
He emphasized that unions are not only advocates for workers’ rights but also key partners in aligning workforce support with government policies.
Given the aviation sector’s direct impact on the economy, safety, and national development, he stressed the importance of fostering collaboration between unions and the Ministry of Aviation.
