Residents of Journalist Estate, Phase One in Arepo, Ogun State have sent a Save Our Soul letter to governor Dapo Abiodun.
This followed the invasion and destruction of their estate entry arch by some members of BERA estate, palace Chiefs and hoodlums allegedly on the instruction of the Olu of Arepo, Oba Atanda Oyebi.
The petition, dated 8th February, 2022 said that the criminal invasion of the estate and destruction of the arch is evidence that lives and property of residents are no longer safe.
The petition alleged that there has been incessant attack on the Estate by BERA members and the Olu of Arepo over the years but not in this violent manner that
compromised the security of residents.
The petition expressed worry that a traditional ruler can take the laws into his hand to provoke unrest in his domain.
The residents are asking for thorough investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators and their sponsors and getting them to replace the arch.
They are also asking that the state Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs initiate appropriate sanctions against the Olu of Arepo, for his role in the destruction of the arch.
The petition notes that Journalist Estate, Arepo, sought and obtained approval before erecting the new arch, the former having been pulled down during the onset of the ongoing road construction.
