The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Mahmud Kambari, says stronger collaboration, transparency, and private sector participation are critical to improving Nigeria’s airport operations and overall aviation performance.
Mr. Kambari made this known during a familiarisation visit to the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria in Ikeja, Lagos, where he commended the agency’s leadership for maintaining stability while pursuing reforms in a challenging operating environment.
The Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, briefed the Permanent Secretary on the authority’s operations, highlighting ongoing efforts to improve staff capacity, passenger experience, and safety standards despite financial and infrastructure pressures.
She noted that recent progress includes extensive personnel training across key areas and the successful recertification of major international airports in Abuja and Lagos, reinforcing Nigeria’s compliance with global aviation standards.
The visit ended with an inspection of facilities at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, stressing the government’s commitment to strengthening oversight, driving reforms, and positioning the aviation sector for sustainable growth.
