Kwara Bandits Kill 10 as Saraki Slams Govt Inaction

Bandits, yesterday morning, killed no fewer than 10 persons, including a village head, during an attack on Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Several others were reportedly injured and kidnapped in the raid.

A vigilante leader, Ajetunmobi, accused the government of ignoring repeated warnings, saying the attackers first struck the vigilante duty post before invading homes.

Among the dead were community members identified as Oji, Saheed Metubi, and Baale Ógba Ayo.

The National President of the Oke-Ode Community Development Association, Ganiyu Ajala, condemned the killings and urged the state government to intensify security efforts.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has relocated its 2025 Medical and Surgical Outreach Programme from Oke-Ode Specialist Hospital to Omupo Cottage Hospital, citing security concerns.

Health Commissioner, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam, said the move was to guarantee safety and wider access to healthcare.

Former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, also condemned the killings, accusing the government of complacency.

He warned that insecurity in the state had reached unprecedented levels, noting that in the last year alone, 70 people were killed, 50 injured, 42 kidnapped, and over 25 communities displaced.
