A High Court in Kwara State has sentenced self-acclaimed prophet Ajiboye Olayinka to life imprisonment for unlawful sexual intercourse with three underage members of his church.
The convict, who was the General Overseer of Divine Land of Joy and Prayer Ministry in the Agah, Ganmo area of Ilorin, was also sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for carrying out illegal abortions linked to pregnancies involving the victims.
Olayinka was prosecuted on an eight-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, illegal abortion and unlawful possession of firearms, contrary to provisions of the Penal Code, the Robbery and Firearms Act, and the Kwara State Child Rights Law.
Delivering judgment, Justice H. Gegele held that the prosecution successfully proved the offences of unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, rape and illegal abortion against the defendant.
The court, however, discharged and acquitted him of the charge of bigamy after ruling that the prosecution failed to establish the offence.
Justice Gegele described the convict as “a pedophile and philanderer whose conduct should be condemned by society” and ordered that the pump-action gun recovered from him be forfeited to the Federal Government.
