Kwara Court Jails Three for Possession of Counterfeit Naira Notes

The Federal High Court in Ilorin has sentenced three individuals to various prison terms for the possession of counterfeit Naira notes.

Presiding Judge, Justice Abimbola Awogboro, found the defendants—Olaitan Dina (46), Opeyemi Jeremiah, and Adebayo Mayowa Abiola—guilty, stating that the prosecution had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Justice Awogboro described the counterfeiting of the Naira as “a serious crime against the law and society.”

Consequently, the court sentenced Dina to 18 months imprisonment, while Jeremiah and Abiola each received 15-month sentences.

The judge ordered that the sentences run concurrently without an option of a fine.

The court also forfeited all counterfeit notes recovered from the convicts to the Federal Government.
