Thirty-six lawmakers loyal to the Speaker of the Lagos State Assembly, Mrs Mojisola Meranda on Thursday rejected the return of Chief Obasa as Speaker, saying their decision stands.
Speaking with newsmen on the Assembly premises in Alausa, Ikeja, the lawmakers led by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Mr Stephen Ogundipe described the former Speaker’s entry into the premises with armed men as an embarrassment to the House.
Mr Ogundipe said the lawmakers who removed Chief Obasa were more than the two-thirds required by the Constitution and that the leadership of their party, the All Progressives Congress, should be bold to address the issue.
Earlier, security detail attached to the Speaker, Mrs Mojisola Meranda, and the House were withdrawn.
Meanwhile, the former Speaker of the Assembly, Chief Mudashiru Obasa said he is back to resume as Speaker of the House.

The former Speaker had entered the Assembly premises in Alausa Ikeja with armed policemen and men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps while hefty non-state actors stationed themselves around the premises.
Addressing journalists after entering the office of the Speaker, and walking around the Assembly premises, Chief Obasa said he had nothing against his fellow lawmakers and that he was impeached and not removed as stipulated in the Constitution.
Chief Obasa also denied knowledge of a suit he filed at the Lagos State High Court challenging his removal from office on the thirteenth of last month.
