The Lagos State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its directive suspending all forms of construction on demolished sites in Makoko and Shogunle, pending the outcome of reconciliation efforts expected to conclude within two weeks.

The Assembly adopted recommendations from the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on E-GIS, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, mandating a 250-metre setback from the Third Mainland Bridge and an additional 250-metre buffer beyond the power line corridor.
The directive effectively prohibits any form of development within the designated zones.
During a committee meeting with community representatives from Makoko and Shogunle, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa represented by Majority Leader Noheem Adams, stated that the Assembly, in collaboration with the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the E-GIS Office, has instructed each affected community to establish a 10-member committee.
According to Adams, the committees must include women, youths, students and traditional leaders to ensure inclusive representation and facilitate a sustainable resolution process.
He further disclosed that the State Executive Council is finalising compensation modalities for affected residents as engagement with stakeholders continues.
Reacting after the meeting, Chairman of Yaba LCDA, Bayo Adefuye, expressed satisfaction with the resolutions, noting that relief materials and palliatives have already been distributed by both state and local authorities.
Adefuye described the two-week timeline as realistic and urged residents to adhere strictly to the Assembly’s directives.
He also cautioned community leaders against actions that could undermine peace or disrupt the reconciliation process.
