Lagos Bows to Pressure, Reduces E-Call Up Fees to N10,000, Begins Enforcement August 1

The Lagos State Government has finally bowed to pressure by stakeholders in the transport sector to reduce enforcement fee for electronic call-up for trucks to ten thousand naira from twelve thousand, five hundred naira on the Lekki-Epe corridor.

The e-call up system which will now commence on August 1st, is modeled after the Lagos Ports “Eto” system, to reduce gridlock along the Ibeju-Lekki axis and ensure that only trucks with genuine appointments are granted terminal access.

The agreement was made available to newsmen in a communique jointly signed by Lagos Commissioner of Transportation, Mr Seun Osiyemi, President, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Worker, Comrade Williams Akporcha, President, Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, Alhaji Yusuf Othman, and President, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Hammed Fasola.

According to the Communique, the meeting was a necessary prerequisite to ensure a smooth transition before the enforcement date, next month. Truckers and haulage operators welcomed the decision but appealed for seamless implementation and real-time technology support to avoid system breakdowns and arbitrary enforcement.
