Lagos Clamps Down on Unregistered Vehicles

About two hundred unregistered and unpainted vehicles on Lagos roads have been impounded in the last two days.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa, who led the team of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, made this known to newsmen in Alausa, Ikeja.

Mr Giwa said that the enforcement was a proactive effort to enhance road safety, security and regulate the transportation sector in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation maintained that unregistered vehicles posed a significant risk to road safety and security, as they often bypassed necessary inspections and regulations, thereby jeopardizing their roadworthiness.

According to him, the enforcement also revealed that certain transport companies around CMS, Obalende, Ajah, and Ojo Cantonment corridors had been operating their fleet of vehicles without proper documentation, which compromised the safety of passengers.

However, Mr Giwa emphasized that the impounded vehicles would not be released until they were duly registered and had met all necessary safety standards.
