The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, has urged residents, Community Development Associations (CDAs), Community Development Committees (CDCs), and stakeholders in Ojo, Badagry, Iba/Oto-Awori, Amuwo, Oriade, and Olorunda districts to obtain Planning Permits for all physical developments in their areas.
Dr. Olumide made the call during a Public Awareness Programme organized by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) to sensitize residents on the importance and social benefits of securing planning permits.

He warned that buildings erected on government rights of way would be demolished when road construction begins, stressing that property owners with valid permits would qualify for compensation.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting orderly and sustainable physical development across the state.
In his remarks, the General Manager of LASPPPA, Tpl. Kehinde Osinailke, appreciated stakeholders for attending the programme and assured that the Authority remains open to assist residents, developers, and professionals seeking clarifications on planning matters.
Dr. Olumide clarified that permits can only be issued for properties within approved layouts and reassured stakeholders that there would be no arbitrary demolitions at the Trade Fair complex.
A Senior Director in LASPPPA, Tpl. Claudius Akinyemi, explained that the application process is now available online for faster access.
She noted that valid permits serve as legal documents, can be used as collateral, and qualify owners for compensation in case of government acquisitions.
Tpl. Akinyemi also outlined the different categories of permits, including Building, Renovation, Remodeling, and Revalidation, while warning against illegal constructions that could attract demolition.
Stakeholders, including the President-General of Alaba International Amalgamated Council, Dr. Camilus Amajuoyi, and the Chairman of the Association of Draftsmen in Lagos, Mr. Olawale Raymond, commended the initiative and called for an Amnesty Programme to help regularize existing unapproved structures.
