Lagos Govt Cautions Residents Against Hoax Calls

Residents of Lagos State have been cautioned against making hoax calls to the State Command and Control Centre, saying that such calls prevent callers from getting the desired attention.

While fielding questions from newsmen at the ongoing Ministerial press briefing to mark the seventh year of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration in Lagos, at Alausa, Ikeja, on Monday, General Manager Lagos State Command and Control Center LSCCC Mr Femi Kennedy-Giwa, while also presenting the operational data and emergency response statistics recorded across the state.

He revealed that of the 24.15 million total calls received from January 25 to April 2026, a total of 16.39 million were nuisance calls, representing 67.9 percent of the calls received.

The state government disclosed that fire emergencies dominated distress calls received by the Lagos State Command and Control Centre in 2025, with Alimosho emerging as the local government with the highest number of incidents statewide.

According to the Lagos State Command and Control Centre, the state recorded 1,972 emergency calls between January and December 2025, excluding false calls, with fire outbreaks accounting for 1,685 incidents.

He described fire emergencies as the most prevalent crisis confronting the state during the period under review, noting that the figures reflected increasing pressure on emergency responders amidst rapid urbanisation and population growth in Lagos.

Mr Kennedy-Giwa explained that March recorded the highest number of emergency calls with 210 incidents, followed by April with 197, while August witnessed the lowest emergency activity with 113 calls.
He attributed the March-April spike to dry season conditions and increased ignition risks, while the drop in August was linked to heavy rainfall which reduced fire outbreaks and movement across the state.

He added that emergency incidents surged again in December with 189 calls due to festive season activities, increased energy consumption and heightened commercial operations.

Speaking on the distribution of incidents across councils, the LSCCC Boss said Alimosho Local Government had the highest number of emergencies with 180 incidents, closely followed by Eti-Osa with 156 and Ikeja with 139 incidents.
He said Kosofe ranked fourth with 89 incidents, while Mushin recorded 49 cases.

Mr Kennedy-Giwa noted that the fake calls created major pressure on emergency communication infrastructure and reduce response time to genuine distress calls involving security, medical and rescue emergencies.

He also highlighted the role of the Lagos State Command and Control Centre in coordinating rapid response among agencies, saying the system had improved communication, dispatch operations and real-time emergency management statewide.

The General Manager LSCCC warned residents of the state against making nuisance calls to the center, saying that such calls prevent genuine callers from getting the desired attention.

He revealed that of the 24.15 million total calls received from January 25 to April 2026, a total of 16.39 million were nuisance calls, representing 67.9 percent of the calls received.

The LSCCC General Manager hinted that to eradicate such false calls, the state government plans to deploy Artificial Intelligence call routing and intelligent filtering systems to tackle the challenge, with AI pre-screening to reduce agent handling time by thirty five percent and improve emergency response operations.
