Lagos Govt, TCN Partner to Protect High-Tension Power Corridors

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to effective land-use management and strict enforcement to protect critical infrastructure and support sustainable urban development across the state.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Lagos Regional team of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority (LASPEMA).

Dr. Olumide stated that the state government is ready to collaborate with relevant agencies to preserve designated open spaces and prevent encroachment on sensitive infrastructure corridors, particularly high-tension power lines.

Earlier, the General Manager of TCN, Lagos Region, Mr. Mojeed Akintola, said the visit was aimed at strengthening inter-agency collaboration to promote orderly development and protect high-tension power corridors, rights-of-way, and pylon setbacks across Lagos State.

He stressed that cooperation between agencies is critical to safeguarding transmission assets and ensuring public safety, warning that encroachment on high-tension corridors poses serious risks to infrastructure and human lives.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, Mr. Oluwole Sotire, described the partnership as a significant step toward reclaiming sensitive high-tension corridors, pledging full administrative support to ensure its success.
