Lagos Holds Stakeholders Meeting on Rehabilitation of Eti-Osa/Lekki-Epe Expressway

The Lagos State Government has held a stakeholders’ meeting on the proposed rehabilitation of the Eti-Osa/Lekki-Epe Expressway, to foster collaboration, promote public understanding, and ensure inclusive participation in the road improvement project.

The meeting focused on the stretch between Admiralty Junction and Jubilee Bridge, Ajah, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, and was aimed at informing residents about traffic management plans and government’s efforts to ease congestion during the rehabilitation.

Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Mr. Olufemi Daramola, said the engagement was part of proactive steps to create a united front among residents and stakeholders to support smooth traffic flow during the project.

“We understand the pains of residents, but government cannot fix all problems at once due to funding limitations. However, we are committed to medium-term solutions using cold mix asphalt for palliative repairs, with both day and night operations,” Daramola said.

Project Timeline and Expected Impact

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure, Mr. Olutokunbo Oyenuga, disclosed that the rehabilitation project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year.

He said the effort would reduce traffic congestion and enhance safety in line with government’s commitment to durable infrastructure.

He added that when completed, the project would improve connectivity, unlock perennial gridlocks, and enhance residents’ quality of life.

He appealed to commuters for patience and urged stakeholders to cooperate by obeying traffic laws throughout the project duration.

Also present at the meeting were members of the State Executive Council, including the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso.

They reaffirmed the government’s determination to address challenges along the corridor through coordinated advocacy and improved traffic management.

“The government is committed to implementing long-term solutions to traffic bottlenecks while ensuring minimal disruption during this rehabilitation period,” they stated.

Residents’ Reactions

Some residents, speaking through the Lekki Residents Association, expressed concern about the use of asphalt and suggested adopting rigid pavement for durability.

Others proposed temporarily opening the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road to ease traffic flow during the repairs.

They also urged the state government to improve road markings, enhance traffic discipline, and provide more collaboration with relevant agencies on alternative routes.

Agencies such as LASTMA, Public Works Corporation (PWC), Fire Service, Police, and Neighborhood Watch will be deployed along the corridor to ensure effective traffic control and safety throughout the rehabilitation exercise.

The Lagos State Government reiterated its appeal for cooperation from residents, assuring that the project will deliver lasting relief once completed.
