Lagos Island Fracas; LASG Sues For Peace.

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Central Business Districts, Mr. Gbenga Oyerinde has called on the warring factions of the National Union Of Road Transport Worker, hoodlums and street urchins on Lagos Island to embrace peace and eschew violence.

Oyerinde made the call while reacting to the violent clashes that occurred in some parts of Lagos Island recently between branches of the transport union, which threatened the peace of the area.

Part of Lagos Island, especially Idumota, Kosoko, Oluwole, Martins and Balogun areas erupted in violent clashes in the early hours of Thursday and the mayhem was reportedly caused by rival groups of street gangs and hoodlums operating under the guise of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

While condemning the mayhem, Mr Oyerinde attributed the escalation of the violence to infiltration of the area by street gangs and hoodlums from other parts of the State under the guise of membership of NURTW.

He stated that the Lagos State Government is doing all within its power to restore peace in the area and advised members of the public, especially the business communities, to be vigilant and security conscious while within the Lagos Island Business District.

The Special Adviser warned that security operatives have been mandated to arrest and prosecute anybody breaching the peace.

He however urged security operatives not to be discouraged in their efforts to protect the lives and properties of Lagosians and above all bring the perpetrators of this violent disturbance to justice.
