Lagos State has launched the Certified Accreditors’ Programme, CAP, to ensure compliance to building regulations and stop incidences of building collapse in the state.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who launched the Public Private Initiative on Monday at the start of a four-day training for accreditors in Oregun, Ikeja, said the government would ensure the safety of buildings and investment within the construction industry.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, said the initiative showed his administration’s commitment to doing the right thing in the construction sector without wasting the time of investors in getting approvals.
Speaking on the essence of the programme, the Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Babatunde was to ensure partnership between the private sector and the government to guarantee integrity of buildings.
In an address of welcome, the General Manager, LASBCA, Mr Gbolahan Oki, said the initiative is to make Lagos a more livable, sustainable and resilient city through total compliance with standard building regulations in line with global best practices, with a call on the newly certified accreditors not to compromise on standards during inspection and monitoring of buildings construction across the state.
