Lagos Moves to Cut Cost of Governance with Multi-Agency Complex, LAGIS Centre

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to reducing the cost of governance by completing major office infrastructure projects at the State Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja.

The governor made the pledge on Tuesday while inspecting the near-completed Multi-Agency Office Complex and the Lagos State Geographical Information System (LAGIS) Centre.

Sanwo-Olu said the projects are designed to cut down the incidental costs of renting office spaces for government agencies and enable most state parastatals operate within the Secretariat vicinity.

According to him, the Multi-Agency Complex is almost completed, with only finishing touches such as landscaping and external clean-up remaining.

“We have just carried out a quick inspection of the Multi-Agency Office Complex and the LAGIS building. As you can see, the complex is practically completed. What is left are finishing works around the setbacks and landscaping,” the governor said.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded by the contractors and noted that the facilities would be ready for use in the next few weeks.

Sanwo-Olu also described the LAGIS Centre as a strategic facility that would strengthen land administration and enhance spatial data management in the state.

“The EGIS building is a unique project because it meets our requirements in inter-spatial and geographic information system deliverables. It is meant to be part of our solution to efficient land administration,” he added.

The governor hinted that both projects could be among those to be unveiled during an expected visit by Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Lagos, although the date for the visit has not yet been confirmed.

He reiterated that beyond reducing rental expenses, the projects would improve synergy among government agencies and provide a more conducive environment for public servants and citizens who access government services.

“The ambience in which our civil servants work and the environment where citizens receive government services are very important to us as a government,” he said.

The Multi-Agency Complex occupies a 2.01-hectare site and consists of three blocks – A, B and C. Block B rises eight floors high, while Blocks A and C have five floors each, with penthouse levels dedicated to conferencing.

The first two floors of each block are designated for parking, while the upper floors provide office accommodation for government agencies.

Other features of the complex include elevators, staircases, reception lobbies, conference rooms, canteens and kitchens, central air-conditioning systems, a generator house, landscaped surroundings and parking spaces for more than 700 vehicles.

The projects are part of the state government’s broader strategy to reduce operational costs while improving efficiency and service delivery across its ministries, departments and agencies.
