Lagos Mulls a Return of Monthly Sanitation

The Lagos State Government is considering re-introducing the monthly environmental sanitation to address the problem of dirty environment in the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated this in Apongbon market, Lagos Island after expressing displeasure with the filthy environment of the area.

The governor said the state government would have a zero tolerance for recklessness and the abuse of the environment.

He also visited Orile, Iganmu and Mile Two along Lagos-Badagry Expressway to inspect the clearing of illegal structures by the Lagos State Task Force on the Environment.

At the various locations, the governor interacted with the traders and residents, explaining to them why they must not reconstruct the illegal structures removed by the Task Force.

He expressed happiness at the work done by the Task Force, promising that his administration would ensure that the place remained clean of illegal structures.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who also visited the market under the Apongbon Bridge on Lagos Island, warned the traders about the dirty environment, saying that the government would not tolerate any fire outbreak under the bridges or any act that might cause damage to public infrastructure.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was accompanied on the inspection by his cabinet members in charge of the environment, information and strategy, said he would inspect more areas of the state to ensure sanity is restored in the transportation and the environment sectors.
