Lagos Office of SDG, HCD Take Financial Literacy Advocacy to Two Hundred Women in Ijede, Agura-Gberigbe, Ikorodu

Lagos State Government says it will continue to promote Human Capital Development, HCD, in the State through advocacy for women’s financial inclusion in hard-to-reach communities and increased awareness of Data’s role in delivering better HCD, outcomes.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, SDG, Dr Oreoluwa Finnih, stated this during a financial literacy training for over two hundred women in Ijede and Agura Gberigbe communities in Ikorodu Division of the state.

The Special Adviser represented by her Technical Assistant, Mrs Aasiah Solanke, emphasized the importance of the advocacy which would empower the women to be financially responsible.

“Many women do not know how to multiply their incomes and that is why we are in their locality to educate and train them on financial literacy because of you train a woman, you have trained a community and as well the society at large, so women should take advantage of the knowledge gained here to better their lives and do well for their families”

At both locations, representatives of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, National Identification Management Commission, Ilera Eko Health scheme and financial institutions educated the beneficiaries on how to multiply their resources, savings for emergencies and importance of data collection for government planning for schools, hospitals and infrastructural development.

Appreciating the Lagos State government for the enlightenment on behalf of all beneficiaries, Alagura of Agura, Oba Olakunle Ogunderu and Vice Chairman Ijede LCDA, Mr Kabir Kareem, said the knowledge gained by the women would help boost their businesses, increase savings and revamp the council’s economy.

” I will like to appreciate Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu for remembering people in my community in Agura and bringing this initiative to my domain, I am happy and it will help my people” Oba Agura said

” This initiative is a laudable one and we are grateful that Ijede LCDA is one of the beneficiaries of this financial literacy, and I assure you that the women will use the knowledge gained judiciously to grow their businesses”

The financial literacy advocacy by the office of SDG and its development partner HCD, has reached fifteen council areas in Lagos with assurance that other local governments will also benefit from the sensitization before the end of next month.
