Lagos OSDG, HCD Empower More Women in Papa Ashafa, Orile Agege LCDA on Financial Literacy

In furtherance of its financial literacy training for women in Lagos, Office of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG in partnership with Human Capital Development, HCD, has trained another set of one hundred women in Orile Agege LCDA on saving to be self reliant.

With this development the Lagos State government has trained one thousand, four hundred women in fourteen Council areas on financial literacy, savings and empowerment opportunities.

At the Papa Ashafa community in Orile Agege, Special Adviser to the Governor on SDG, Dr Oreoluwa Finnih said the financial literacy workshop was to expose women in hard to reach areas to economic opportunities.

The Special Adviser who was represented by Principal Admin Officer, Mrs Abimbola Odumbaku, urged women to engage in trading, vocational skills and cultivate the habit of saving money using digital technology to be financially independent.

“Lagos government want all women in the state to be educated on financial literacy, and know how to safe, all the money they keep under the bed, cupboards let them know how to roll it over to make more profit, it is not all about saving it in banks alone but utilizing it to make more money for their businesses to expand, that is why we are doing this type of workshop for them for enlightenment and sensitization.”

Appreciating the state government for the initiative, the Community Development Association Chairman, Chief Abiodun Mosuro, expressed optimism that the women would put to good use the knowledge gained from the workshop to be self sufficient and be a helping hand with their husband to put food on their families table.

“We are grateful for this opportunity, because many of our women who have not registered for NIN and LASSRA today have the opportunity to do it in their domain, we thank the Lagos State government for this and we hope more initiatives will follow suit. I know our women will make use of this training to better their lives.”

A cross-section of beneficiaries at the forum.

Some of the women lauded the Lagos State government for its achievements in women empowerment through various people oriented policies and programmes.

Representatives of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, National Identification Management Commission and Cowrywise and Opay were on ground to capture the beneficiaries into their database, educating them on the importance of registration to aim government development planning.
