With the Peoples Democratic Party zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, may square off against President Bola Tinubu.
In Lagos, a PDP support group known as Reset Lagos PDP has urged Igbos across the country to rally behind Governor Makinde to clinch power in 2027.
Convener of the group, Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, who also leads the National Support Group for Makinde, told journalists that the governor stands out among other aspirants and has the interest of Igbos at heart.
“He is the one that has shown interest in running and he has performed excellently as the governor of Oyo state.
He came into politics not depending on government money, even from the university unlike most of our politicians who come into politics with nothing and begin to take government money”.
Chairman of the Lagos chapter of the Igbonine Great Peoples Assembly, Elder Okezie Anyanwu, said the 2027 polls would not be business as usual, urging Igbos in Lagos to align with the PDP, which he described as a party with solid structures despite APC’s current dominance.
“Why I am aligning with PDP, it’s the only party that has structure all over Nigeria.
And the foundation of PDP is on a proper and integrity footing unlike these other parties. I appeal to everyone to vote right
Special guest at the event, General Manager of Metro FM, Miss Maria Ihuoma, stressed the need for collective effort to ensure smooth elections in 2027.

“The upcoming election is very germane. It is very critical to inclusivity and my advice to Ndi-Igbo from the South-east is that they should participate fully by registering and of course contesting if need be.
But however whoever emerges as the candidate from south as a whole, especially during the primaries that person should be supported massively by Ndi-Igbo because it is still the turn of the south.
Highlight of the inaugural meeting of the Igbonine Assembly in Lagos was the cutting of kola nuts—an important Igbo cultural symbol—and group photographs.
