The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State says it has rejected the ad-hoc delegates list brought by the electoral committee of the party to the state for the purpose of conducting State House of Assembly and House of Representatives Primary Elections.
The Party’s State Chairman, Mr. Philip Aivoji made this known at a news briefing Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
Mr. Aivoji said party members were shocked to see that the delegates list did not reflect the authentic elected Ad-hoc delegates chosen by the organs of the party at Ward levels and Supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agents.
He said the ad-hoc list that emanated from the state and submitted to INEC was completely different from the one brought by the committee for the purpose of the exercise.
“We realised that contrary to the provision of our party and the Electoral guidelines of the party, the Election committee came to the state with the list of venues and already chosen Electoral officers. This is the responsibility of the state executive committee of our party and therefore totally unacceptable.
Also the committee Chairman and Secretary of the Election Committee meant to conduct the house of Assembly Primary Elections have not reported to the state Chairman or state organ of the party, up till this moment, we cannot reach out to the committee Chairman and Secretary, their telephones have either been switched off or unreachable” he said
Mr. Aivoji called for the cancellation of the exercise because it would not only jeopardize the chances of the party at the polls but lead to endless litigations.
He appealed to the National Working Committee of the party to cancel any state Assembly and House of Representatives primaries that may have been conducted in the state.
“As law abiding members of our great party, we collectively reject this list, and we cannot guarantee free, fair and credible party primaries that we have sworn to conduct. The processes have been compromised ab initio and skewed to favour a particular aspirant”. Mr. Aivoji stressed.
The news briefing was attended by five Governorship aspirants while one Governorship aspirant, Mr. Olajide Adediran was absent.
