Lagos Pensioners Raise Alarm Over 57-Month Arrears, Delayed Benefits

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Lagos State Council says the state government is yet to pay 57 month pension arrears of 2019 consequential adjustment.

Reacting to a statement credited to the Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-olu who said that no Pensioner is being owed, the Chairman of NUP in the State, Comrade Olufemi Olarenwaju said in a release today in Lagos that, the state government is yet to offset 12 month arrears of twenty percent and twenty eight percent arising from the review of Pension rate.

“The implementation of 32,000 naira on Pension of DBS Retirees arising from the National minimum wage, amendment act of 2024 has not been carried out by the Lagos State Pension Commission, LASPEC”. Statement said

On the part of Pensioners under the contributory Pension scheme, he said, “the Lagos State Government is yet to implement pension increases, three months after the submission of the Template to Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu”.

Comrade Olarenwaju said over a thousand Retirees in the last two years are yet to get terminal benefits from the Lagos State Pension Commission, after completing documentation.

” Retirees of Lagos State University
of Education, LASUED, are yet to collect their terminal benefits in the last three years, While commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu for clearing the backlog of pension liabilities,”.

Comrade Olarenwaju implored the governor to address the issue of welfare of Pensioners frontally.
