LAGOS PHARMACISTS SERVE NOTICE OF STRIKE

By Fabian Anawo

Pharmacists in the employ of the Lagos State government are ready to down tool if the state government continues to delay the implementation of the Consultancy Cadre.

The Consultancy Cadre was approved in 2018 by then governor Akinwunmi Ambode but the implementation was suspended.

The Chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, Lagos State, Mr. Oyekunle Babayemi dropped the hint today at the annual luncheon of the society in Lagos.

Mr. Babayemi noted that the
Consultancy cadre is a reality across the globe from the UK, USA, France and Austria to African countries including Ghana, Sierra-Leone, Egypt and South Africa and wondered why Nigeria should be an exception.

He urged governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to immediately activate the Consultancy Cadre in Public Sector Pharmacy Practice to prevent them from joining other health workers to declare a long avoidable trade dispute.

The PSN also wants the state government to set up a Faculty of Pharmacy at the Lagos State University in line with the campaign promise of governor Sanwo-Olu to establish a College of Pharmacy.

He said that it is an aberration that Lagos, the Centre of Excellence does not have a Pharmacy School when it is supposed to lead others.

PSN also demanded for
payment of Retention Allowance to Pharmacists.
