Lagos Police Command Outlines Security Plans Ahead of July 12 LG Elections

In preparation for the July 12, 2025 Local Government Elections across 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State, the Lagos Police Command has unveiled comprehensive security measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly poll.

In collaboration with other security bodies under the Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), personnel will be deployed to polling units, collation centres, and strategic points across the state.

As part of security protocols:Total restriction of vehicular and boat movement will be enforced from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 12.

Security aides and escorts are barred from accompanying principals to polling areas.

Use of siren-equipped or unregistered vehicles around election venues is prohibited.Only essential service vehicles (ambulances, fire trucks, patrol vehicles) and duly accredited officials (LASIEC, observers, journalists) with official ID tags will be exempted.

State-owned security outfits and quasi-security agents are banned from participating in election duties.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Jimoh, urged residents to comply fully and cooperate with security personnel, assuring that enforcement will be firm, professional, and respectful of human rights.

He warned political thugs and troublemakers to stay clear of polling areas, adding that violators of the movement restrictions or those found fomenting violence would face immediate arrest and prosecution.

Political parties have also been advised to keep their members in check and ensure peaceful conduct before, during, and after the elections.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding democracy and called on Lagosians to exercise their civic duty peacefully.
