‎Lagos Police Detain Officers Over Viral Assault on Motorist

The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the detention of some officers caught on camera assaulting a motorist during a stop-and-search operation.

‎The incident, which sparked outrage after going viral on Friday, showed the officers attempting to forcefully remove the motorist’s eyeglasses, claiming it contained a recording device.

‎Squad Dissolved

‎Spokesperson of the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the entire tactical squad involved in the incident has been dissolved on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh.

‎New Tactical Unit Formed

‎Hundeyin said the Commissioner has already constituted a new tactical unit that will operate with zero tolerance for corruption and adhere strictly to international best practices in policing.

‎Disciplinary Action Underway

‎He further disclosed that the detained officers will face an orderly room trial to ensure justice is served swiftly and transparently.

‎The Lagos police command assured members of the public that the actions of the officers were an isolated incident and do not reflect the values of the Nigeria Police Force.
