LAGOS POLICE RESCUE SUSPECTED CHILD THIEF FROM MOB

A case of jungle justice has been prevented in Lagos where a young man would have been angrily killed for allegedly stealing a boy.
It took the intervention of the Police in Lagos to rescue the twenty two year old man, one Ayomide Fawehinmi from being lynched by a mob, for allegedly stealing a child at the Empire area of Surulere.

Lagos police spokesman, Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin said the suspect was rescued and thereafter arrested following a distress call from some members of the community about the attempted mob action.

He said that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect lured a 15-year-old boy from his mother’s shop and was taking him to an unknown destination qhen he was accosted by a neighbour who raised the alarm.

Mr. Hundeyin noted that the suspect had already dispossessed the boy of an android phone to cut him off from communicating with his mother before the encounter.

“While the boy has been rescued unhurt and the phone recovered, investigation is ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s culpability. Suspect would be arraigned contingent on the outcome of the investigation”

Mr. Hundeyin said that Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Alabi commended residents for always promptly alerting the authorities to suspicious persons and happenings and as well warned against jungle justice as it is a crime in itself.
