Lagos Police Storm Third Mainland Bridge, Declear Sowore Wanted

The Lagos State Police Command on Friday staged a coordinated show of force on the Third Mainland Bridge and surrounding routes in a bid to reassure residents of safety and deter planned disruptions.

The exercise, which followed intelligence reports linking activist Omoyele Sowore to a proposed protest at the bridge, saw heavy deployment of security operatives across key entry and exit points.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, said the operation was designed to boost public confidence and prevent any obstruction of movement along the state’s busiest corridor.

He confirmed that Sowore has been declared wanted by the Command for allegedly attempting to incite public disorder, directing tactical units and divisions to arrest him if sighted in line with legal provisions.

“No road was permanently closed,” Jimoh clarified, adding that only temporary traffic diversions were made to ensure public safety.

He noted that traffic officers were on ground to manage movement and ease congestion during the operation.

Ahead of the festive season, the CP said a comprehensive security plan was now active, featuring intelligence-driven patrols, rapid response deployments, and raids on criminal hideouts to forestall any surge in crime.

Jimoh assured Lagosians that the police remain fully committed to protecting lives, property, and critical infrastructure, while working closely with residents and stakeholders to maintain peace across the state.
