Lagos Residents Rejoice as Police Report Sharp Drop in Violent Crimes

Lagos State has recorded a significant drop in violent crimes in recent months, with the Police Command crediting expanded crime-prevention strategies and intensified patrols for the improved security climate.

Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, said the state has remained stable throughout the Ember Months as officers stepped up surveillance and rapid-response operations across major communities.

The CP noted that renewed collaboration with residents, traditional institutions and security stakeholders has played a crucial role in the progress recorded.

He said continuous “show-of-force” deployments, convoy patrols and covert monitoring have not only deterred criminal activities but also boosted public confidence as the festive season approaches.

As part of recent breakthroughs, the Command paraded 10 recovered exotic vehicles, including a Range Rover Sport SUV, Toyota Hilux, Land Cruiser Jeep, Lexus GX460 and others stolen from within and outside the state.

Officers also recovered arms, ammunition, charms and $4,000 in fake foreign currency.

Jimoh warned that the rising trend of vehicle thefts by newly employed drivers and car-wash attendants calls for heightened vigilance, urging residents not to leave their cars or keys unattended.

He highlighted the impact of the newly strengthened Eko Strike Force — introduced by the Inspector-General of Police to complement the Rapid Response Squad — which has been conducting rapid covert and overt operations in flashpoint areas.

Plans are underway to expand the tactical units from 35 to 57, ensuring every local government and LCDA has a dedicated squad.

Jimoh assured residents and holiday travellers that Lagos remains safe, with increased deployments to recreation centres, markets, major roads, worship centres, schools and other high-traffic locations.

He emphasized that no major security breach has been recorded since September and urged Lagosians to proceed with their festive activities confidently.
