Lagos seeks Additional Partnership for Educational Development

The Lagos State Government has been commended for always being at the forefront of innovation in the education sector and encouraged not to relent.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Andrew Adejo gave the commendation today in Ikeja at this year’s Lagos Education Conference with the theme: “Exploring The Opportunities in Public-Private -Partnership for Educational Development in Nigeria”

He said “I remembered that in 2007, it’s the same Lagos that collaborated with ICRC and the Nigerian Infrastructure Advisory Facility to create the National Public-Private Partnership Network, all I need to say is to let Lagos State know that other Stares are looking up to them and they should continue, I would have loved that this conference has participants from other States in attendance”

The conference was organised by the State Ministry of Education, Casio and SKLD Intergrated Services Ltd, who had partnered the State in Mathematics and Technology.

The State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo who said Lagos is open to more partnership in other subjects pointed out that the current agreement had enhanced teachers capability and improved learning outcomes and students’ performances in examinations.

She said “Honestly, the partnership has been very fruitful, our WAEC results went up with more students passing maths, we are a Ministry that is open to oartnership
given the constraint on the capacity of government to fully and sustainably fund education, one must look to innovative method by which partnerships can be formed, It is indeed, logical that the private sector, who are the major beneficiary of school production, form alliance of sorts with government based on not just their corporate social responsibilities but on mutually benefitting alliances with the government. So I look forward to the outcomes and assure you that such will be presented to the state Government for consideration”.

Representatives of the partners, Hamza Aoun and Tayo Osiyemi explained that the partnership was borne out of the need to create solutions that empowers and boist quality delivery of education in Nigeria.

Education District 6 was chosen as the pilot of the partnership which involved the training of teachers and distribution of scientific calculators to students while arrangements have been concluded to extend it to the remaining five districts.
