The Lagos State Government has announced plans to roll out a state-issued driver’s licence in partnership with the Federal Government as part of efforts to improve road safety and strengthen traffic management across the state.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this on Monday during the 2026 annual ministerial press briefing held in Alausa.
The briefing formed part of activities marking the seventh anniversary of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to the commissioner, the introduction of the Lagos driver’s licence is expected to make the licensing process faster and more accessible for motorists while also enhancing traffic regulation and compliance within the state.
Osiyemi also revealed that the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has divided its regulated on-street parking scheme into five major zones, Ikeja, Ikoyi, Lekki, Victoria Island and Surulere, to tackle congestion and improve parking management efficiency.
He explained that the zoning initiative is designed to streamline parking operations in high-traffic areas, reduce indiscriminate parking and improve traffic flow for commuters and businesses.
The commissioner added that the structured parking arrangement would help motorists locate available parking spaces more easily, while also boosting revenue collection, monitoring and enforcement of parking regulations statewide.
The Lagos State Government said the measures are part of broader transportation reforms aimed at creating a more organised, efficient and safer road network for residents and businesses.
