Landscape Architects Restates Commitment to Professionalism, marks 20 Years Of environmental advocacy

Society of Landscape Architects of Nigeria, SLAN says it will continue in its strides in shaping the environment and balancing nature’s beauty, while championing the urgent need to combat climate change.

SLAN National President, Mr Amos Alao, who stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos said the organisation’s unwavering dedication to addressing climate change related challenges has brought about positive changes in policies, practices, and public perception.

Mr. Alao noted that the Association had emerged as a prominent voice in the realm of landscape architecture, with a remarkable journey that impacted both local and global communities.

He pointed out that“the Association has not only raised the standards of landscape architecture within the country but has also contributed significantly to the international discourse on environmental stewardship”.

Mr. Alao stated SLAN’s forthcoming 20th anniversary is a celebration of dedication to environmental advocacy, professional excellence, and fostering sustainable landscapes.

“Throughout its 20-year journey, SLAN has been at the forefront of advocating climate change awareness and action.

“its initiatives have resonated far beyond Nigeria’s borders, inspiring a global community to take proactive steps towards a greener and more sustainable future.

“Our 20th anniversary marks a significant milestone in our continuous pursuit of creating harmonious landscapes that enhance the well-being of both people and the planet,” Alao said

He stated that“over the past two decades, members have collaborated tirelessly and to celebrate this remarkable journey, we have planned a series of events and activities throughout the anniversary year which includes seminars, workshops, exhibitions, launch of its new constitution and community engagement initiative”.

Alao noted that the events would raise awareness about the critical role of landscape architecture in addressing environmental challenges.

“As we looks ahead to the next chapter, the organisation remains committed to its core values of innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity.

“With a dynamic membership and a growing network of collaborators, SLAN is poised to continue its impactful contributions to a more sustainable and resilient future,” he added.

The organisation was founded in June 2003, with over 120 members.

As an affiliate of the International Federation of Landscape Architects, SLAN collaborates on a global scale to promote sustainable design and planning.
