LASEMA Begins Comprehensive Evaluation of Oshodi Fabric Market fire

Investigation has commenced to unravel the cause of the fire incident at Cairo Downtown market in Oshodi, Lagos State.

The Director General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osayintolu, made this known when he paid a visit to the market to assess the impact of the fire which occured overnight.

Sixty six shops, twenty five containerized shops, and four offices were gutted by the inferno.

Dr Oke-Osayintolu who noted that a comprehensive evaluation would be carried out allayed fear of traders that the fire was caused by explosive device.

He cautioned those who leave electrical appliances on after close of the day’s job to desist and assured those affected that government would assist them if investigations shows that the fire was not man made.

The LASEMA DG, however condemned the attack on the first responders yesterday during which an emergency vehicle was vandalized by miscreants in the process of quelling the fire.

He warned that henceforth anyone caught molesting first responders during emergency would face the wrath of the law.

“I assure you that we will get to the root of the fire, but let me again appeal to our people to stop molesting, stop vandalising the property of responders, anybody that is caught would face the wrath of Justice” the LASEMA DG warned

In an interview with Radio Nigeria, some of the affected traders lamented that the incident was a huge loss to them with the economic situation in the country.

They appealed to the state government to cushion the effect and ameliorate their plight.
