LASG Embarks On Stakeholders’ Engagement For the Review of Safety Regulations and Policies

The Lagos State Government has commenced stakeholders’ consultation on the proposed review of the Safety Commission’s regulations programme

Addressing stakeholders at an event organized by the Lagos Safety Commission in Lekki axis of the State, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Dr Tajudeen Gaji said the proposed review was part of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration efforts of ensuring a safe and hazard-free workplace in line with a 21st Century Economy

Dr Gaji pointed out that most of the safety regulation and laws are nearly outdated due to the rapidly growing nature of the State.

“The effort of the Safety Commission in organising this event is highly commendable, especially considering the THEMES agenda of the Lagos State Governor on ensuring strict enforcement of safety rules and guidelines that are geared towards making the workplace safe and hazard-free.’’

In his remarks, Director-General of the Safety Commission, Mr Lanre Mojola stressed that the review of the regulations became paramount in order to reposition the Commission for effective and efficient performance.

Mr Mojola who announced that the Safety Commission had so far issued
9,500 safety events clearance, paving way for event centres to hold approved programmes amidst the ongoing covid-19 pandemic emphasized that the safety clearances were issued free to operators.

Pledging that his agency would continue to engage, educate, regulate and enforce to ensure compliance and zero accident, injury and fatality, Mr Mojola disclosed that the proposed review of the regulations and policies would be stringent to ensure a sustainably safer Lagos.

“it is only a safer Lagos that can guarantee the attainment of a greater Lagos.” he maintained.

Stakeholders at the event with the theme: “Safety Regulations and Policies: A Review towards creating a Safer Lagos” included officials from the Ministry of Justice, Law Reform and Safety Advocate Professionals.
