LASG to ensure Integrity Tests on Buildings Under Construction

The Lagos State Government has given the assurance that it will not relent in its efforts at ensuring that buildings under construction in the state are subjected to Structural Integrity Tests to prevent issues of collapsed buildings in the state.

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat gave the assurance while addressing newsmen at the site of the twenty one storey building that Collapsed on Gerald Road in Ikoyi, today.

Dr. Hamzat was at the site on official inspection.

He said that although Investigation was still ongoing on what actually led to the collapse, his office was officially briefed that the building was sealed in June this year when the Lagos State agancy discovered that the structure fell below the required standard.

He however, explained that the concern of governmernt for now was to ensure that the ongoing search and rescue operation at the site yield positive result so that those still tapped in the rubble could be rescued.

Dr. Hamzat announced that so far, ten bodies had been recovered from the rubbles while nine people had been rescued and were receiving Lagos General hospital on Lagos Island.

The Deputy Governor and some top Lagos State Government officials later visited the Lagos General Hospital, Marina where the nine survivors are being treated.

As at the time of the Deputy Governor’s visit to the hospital, three of the survivors that sustained minor injuries had been discharged.
