LASIEC Denies Withholding Ad-Hoc Staff Pay, Clarifies Payment Issues

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has dismissed media reports alleging that it failed to pay ad-hoc staff engaged during the July 12 local government elections.

In a statement issued by the Commission’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Tope Ojo, LASIEC described the report titled “Outrage as Ad-hoc staff used by LASIEC to conduct council election, cry out over unpaid wages, one month after” as misleading.

Mr. Ojo explained that all duly verified ad-hoc staff had already received their payments within the past two weeks.

He, however, acknowledged that a few cases remain unresolved due to incorrect bank details supplied by some individuals.

According to him, affected staff have been directed to liaise with their respective Electoral Officers to regularize their account information so that outstanding payments can be processed without delay.

The LASIEC spokesperson stressed that insinuations of embezzlement or mismanagement of funds were false and capable of eroding public trust in democratic institutions.

He urged the media and stakeholders to rely on verified information to avoid unnecessary misrepresentation.
